Shoot to Streetballing stardom!
Chance to join the Streetball Extreme team
Young Streetball enthusiasts could ‘shoot’ to stardom and see their sporting dreams come true this summer thanks to a brand new search to find the best UK Streetball talent.
Streetball, the latest sports craze to hit Europe, is an urban form of basketball but with more relaxed rules and an emphasis on style and flair. To help seek out the best young Streetball talent across the UK, funky fruit flavour chew MAOAM and leading streetball / basketball brand Streetball Extreme (as seen on Extreme Sports Channel) have joined forces to find the top dribblers, dunkers and freestyle basketball players across the nation.
The overall MAOAM Streetball Extreme Champion will win £500 plus the once-in-a-life-time opportunity to become a member of the mighty Streetball Extreme team for 2008. Streetball Extreme recently won every game they played during ‘The Battle For Europe Tour’ and became European streetball champions.
Anyone who thinks they have what it takes to play with the best in the UK can attend one of five Open Run events across the UK in May and June. Here they can challenge the Streetball Extreme team and display their best Streetball skills and moves with the hope of being crowned MAOAM Streetball Extreme Champion.
The most impressive 10 entrants at each event will stay on to play alongside Streetball Extreme in the All Star Exhibition Game taking place the same day. And the overall best two players, selected by streetball legend ‘Con-man’, will then be invited to the Grand Final in Stevenage, 21ST June. Here the MAOAM Streetball Champion will be hand picked to become an official member of Streetball Extreme plus receive £500 and loads of MAOAM goodies. Nine runners up will also walk away with £100, MAOAM treats and SBX goodies.
The MAOAM Streetball Champion’s role will begin the very next day when they will play as a member of Streetball Extreme in Chelmsford, Essex. The game will be followed by a team meal and an evening of bowling.
Streetball focuses on one-on-one match-ups. The vibrant game involves an MC and is a hybrid of performance art and sport. Players express themselves through skill and ability on the court and use style and creativity to dominate opponents with artistic finesse.
Herwig Vennekens from MAOAM said "We are always keen to encourage and support new exciting sports and this is no exception. The events are incredibly enjoyable to watch due to the dazzling moves and innovative play – in fact it is as fun for the audience as it is for the players."
Paul Clarkson from Streetball Extreme said "With thousands of outdoor hoops being erected every year, this sport is rapidly growing throughout the UK. The Streetball Extreme team are very proud of their impressive successes so far and are on the look out for fresh talent to help them remain at the top of their game."
Streetball Extreme was founded by Streetball legend Tom 'Con-Man' Connors. The smash hit TV show, Streetball Extreme, Battle for Europe, which followed the team’s tour of Europe, was one of the most popular programmes on the Extreme Sports Channel. The Streetball Extreme brand even has their own clothing range and DVD due to its increasing fan base.
